David brings a diverse skill set to M-Group. His broad educational background paired with his real-world planning experience and passion for problem solving make him a coveted team member. He has a strong background in zoning code interpretation, project review and public engagement. David’s writing and communication skills are excellent. He also excels at collaboration, with a talent for merging the interests of multiple entities.
Having served in planning departments in the Cities of Richmond and San Francisco, David is well versed in the nuances of the Bay Area. His experience includes staff reports for residential projects within Historic Districts, presenting to Planning Commissions and assisting with public workshops and charrettes associated with General Plan Updates. He has dealt with entitlement disputes and managed city-wide sign programs. David’s particular interests include urban design, complete streets, historic preservation, and simply bringing more beauty and livability to the Bay Area.
David earned his Master of Urban and Regional Planning degree from San Jose State University, preceded by undergraduate degrees in English Literature from the University of California at Santa Barbara and a Geography degree from California State University, East Bay. He resides in Oakland with his wife and enjoys exploring hilly roads and trails on one of his garage-built bicycles, reading books especially in a café, and attending art exhibitions.
