RICHARD PATENAUDE, AICP
east bay team leader + principal Planner
Richard has over 30 years of public sector planning experience working with a diverse set of communities, allowing him to look at different approaches toward a desired outcome. His inclusiveness creates an atmosphere wherein people work together and harder because they are involved and respected, whether in a staff or a community meeting. He is currently our East Bay Team Leader and also works with the City of San Mateo assisting with public information and development review.
His experience includes long-term positions with the Cities of Palm Springs and Hayward, where his attention to detail and warm personality enabled him to direct the path oflarge and complex projects, environmental reviews, zoning and general plan amendments, historic preservation, native tribal issues, land use policy formulation, public outreach, sign ordinances and zoning code updates.
Richard has a B.S. in City & Regional Planning from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, and an M.A. in Public History & Historic Preservation from California State University, Dominguez Hills. He remains involved in the California Preservation Foundation and is involved with the Hayward Area Historical Society. Richard is the Director of the Leadership Hayward program of the Hayward Chamber of Commerce.
Richard has a passion for the pursuit of historic preservation. He enjoys travel, especially to international destinations peppered with jaunts to Disneyland, with his spouse Jim. Richard can often be found in Don Castro Regional Park with Fergie, Una and Belle, his children of the canine variety.
