City of PALO ALTO

HISTORIC REVIEW

This historical resource evaluation was prepared at the request of the City of Palo Alto Department of Planning & Community Environment to determine whether the multifamily residential structure at 702 Clara Drive, in the City of Palo Alto, qualifies as an historical resource in accordance with Article 5, §15064.5 of the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) Guidelines.

A site visit was conducted to photograph the structures and the surrounding neighborhood setting. During the site visit, notes on the architectural features of the building and neighborhood were taken for later use to create site and building descriptions.

Research on the history of the property, and the associated persons and events, was conducted at the Palo Alto Historical Association, the City of Palo Alto website and the Rinconada Library. The City Department of Planning & Community Environment staff provided copies of building permit records for the property. Historic Sanborn Fire Insurance Company Maps are not available for the neighborhood in which the subject property is located.

Research conducted at the Rinconada Library included a review of the Polk’s Directories dating between 1956 and 1978. In addition, the California Register of Historical Resources and Palo Alto’s Master List of Structures on the Historic Survey were consulted, and the subject property was not included in these listings.
