Andrew Trippel, AICP, is a seasoned Principal Planner with more than 20 years of experience advancing complex land use, policy, and development initiatives across the public, private, nonprofit, and academic sectors. He brings a disciplined, results-oriented approach to planning that integrates strong technical analysis with practical implementation, helping clients navigate regulatory complexity while advancing community and organizational goals.

Andrew currently serves as Planning Manager for the City of Petaluma, where he provides executive-level leadership over long-range planning, zoning administration, and discretionary development review. In this role, he has led the development and adoption of Citywide Objective Design Standards and the Citywide Cannabis Retail (Storefront) Ordinance, overseen high-profile entitlement decisions and appeals, and secured approximately $900,000 in federal and regional grant funding to support planning and revitalization efforts. His work emphasizes defensible decision-making, performance management, and clear communication with elected officials, commissions, applicants, and the public.

Previously, Andrew held progressively responsible planning roles with the City of Santa Rosa, including Acting Supervising Planner and Senior Planner, where he managed large caseloads, led teams reviewing hundreds of development applications annually, and contributed to General Plan updates, housing initiatives, downtown development strategies, and division-wide process improvements. Earlier in his career, he supported national planning and urban design projects with LRK, Inc. and advanced university–community partnerships and grant-funded revitalization efforts in Memphis, Tennessee.

Across all roles, Andrew is known for balancing customer service with professional credibility, pairing policy expertise with sound judgment, and improving systems to deliver better outcomes. He excels at aligning planning practice with organizational performance, mentoring teams, and translating complex land use issues into clear, actionable strategies.
