BRITTANY BENDIX
Principal Planner
Brittany has over 19 years of land use and policy experience in urban planning, historic preservation, and zoning. Prior to joining M-Group, she worked at the San Francisco Planning Department for nine years, where she focused on large complex development projects in the northwest and southeast quadrants of the city. As a result, she has an extensive background working through controversial projects and collaborating with various parties to resolve disputes.
Brittany’s planning portfolio includes current planning projects ranging from new construction of large hillside single homes to high-rises, as well as the review of expansions to and adaptive-reuse of historic resources. Her policy experience entails Housing Element adoption and the implementation of housing programs, legislative reforms to San Francisco’s residential demolition and rent control ordinances, introduction of multifamily zoning and inclusionary housing policies to smaller communities, and internal Department process improvements related to enhancing operations for Planning and Community Development Departments. Brittany also facilitates the firm’s Housing Legislation Roundtable where team members discuss implementation approaches to aligning clients with ongoing state land use legislation.
Brittany received her Master's in City and Regional Planning (M.C.R.P) degree from the Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy at Rutgers University, with a specialization in International and Regional Development. She also obtained her Bachelor of Arts in Urban Studies and Planning from the University of California, San Diego. As of 2017, Brittany is an alumnus of Leadership San Francisco, a community service program operated as a nonprofit affiliate of the San Francisco Chamber of Commerce.
As a Principal Planner with M-Group, Brittany started as the consulting Deputy Planning Manager for the City of Petaluma. In this role, Brittany processed major projects, supervised junior planners and the public counter, facilitated process improvements, and filled in for the Planning Manager as needed. Brittany now works with M-Group's South Bay team on various policy projects for clients, including specific plans, community plans, and housing element updates. She is currently the consulting Town Planner for the Town of Atherton, where she leads the Town’s long-range and current planning efforts.
Having grown up in the Bay Area, Brittany loves to spend her downtime with friends and family exploring new places. She loves a good urban hike and bringing back cooking or reading inspiration from her adventures. Most recently, Brittany spent time scoping out old buildings and parks in Portland, hiking with the monkeys and sloths in Manuel Antonio, and recharging after a housing element adoption in Shelter Cove. Currently, she’s excited to get to know her new neighborhood in Downtown San José.
