EDWARD HUYNH
ASSISTANT PLANNER
Edward holds a Master's in Urban Planning from San José State University, with a focus on transportation planning, and a Bachelor's in Political Science with a minor in History from San Francisco State University. His academic work has centered on transportation, land use, equity, and community development. During graduate school, Edward served as President of the Urban Planning Coalition and co-authored the award-winning "Reimagining Saratoga Avenue" Urban Village Plan. For that plan, he conducted site analysis, demographic research, and zoning and regulatory review, and developed recommendations to improve pedestrian safety, transit access, and the public realm.
Edward brings experience in transportation planning, community outreach, and municipal planning. As an Outreach Coordinator in transportation planning, he worked with communities and public agencies to promote transit, coordinate outreach events, conduct surveys, and share transportation project information with diverse audiences. As a Planning Technician, he reviewed development plans for completeness, assisted the public with zoning and land-use questions, tracked permits and planning projects, and supported day-to-day municipal planning operations.
Before entering the planning field, Edward worked in politics for several state senators and on political campaigns, advocating for equity, justice reform, and environmental justice. Still, he considers one of his most impactful jobs to be the six years he spent as a waiter putting himself through college. That work taught him how to work with all kinds of people, stay composed under pressure, adapt quickly, and, most importantly, roll with whatever life brings. Those lessons continue to shape how Edward approaches his planning work and the challenges it brings.
