HANNAH MEEKS
AssistantPlanner
Hannah Meeks has a tenacious drive to improve the accessibility, walkability, and social connectivity of Bay Area communities. Since joining M-Group, Hannah has focused on long-range and current planning. This work has included supporting jurisdictions with grant writing, housing elements, and general plan updates, as well as in-person city staffing. Hannah is also helping build out M-Group’s GIS capacities, drawing on her deep familiarity with ESRI’s product catalog.
Hannah holds a bachelor’s degree in Geography, Environment, and Planning from Sonoma State University and a master’s degree in Urban and Regional Planning from San Jose State University. She then honed her skills through an internship with the City of Campbell Community Development Department, gaining practical experience that complements her academic foundation.
As a person with Cerebral Palsy and a passion for city planning, Hannah brings a unique perspective and unparalleled optimism. She hopes to one day achieve her ultimate career goal of making communities more accessible for people with physical disabilities.
Hannah’s master’s thesis examined how to define an inclusive and accessible environment through a detailed analysis of Google’s Downtown West project. By conducting three development case studies (Mission Bay in San Francisco, Cornell Tech in New York, and Luxembourg City in Luxembourg), she established a comprehensive set of criteria based on the practices implemented in each. After comparing these benchmarks with the Downtown West plans, website, and design guidelines, the thesis concluded that the project does indeed create an inclusive and accessible environment for people with disabilities. Building on this finding, Hannah also proposed a series of ambitious recommendations to further enhance the project’s impact.
During her downtime, Hannah enjoys reading, conquering puzzles, and watching Big Bang Theory reruns.
