Kavitha Kumar’s planning career has been seasoned by 20+ years of municipal Planning and Development with several years of architecture and private development project management sprinkled in. She has progressively advanced through diverse planning departments in Ohio, Colorado, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, and California.

Kavitha has done a lot of breaking ground and blazing trails in her career. As the first-ever professional planner for the Town of Nederland, Colorado, as well as Carver, Massachusetts she created, developed, and established robust Planning programs in both these diverse communities. She has also tackled large profile projects in the Bay Area including managing the planning and development of the Stanford University campus for over 10 years and leading the review of the “GUP 2018” project (Stanford University 2035). With a large team of staff and consultants, she navigated the needs of the Stanford community, diverse stakeholders, and six neighboring local jurisdictions.

A Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, a Master’s degree in Community Planning, and years of planning experience in cities across the nation have all contributed to Kavitha’s mindset of diversity, growth, flexibility, and adaptability that she applies to her professional and personal life. While not at work Kavitha enjoys gardening, music, and giving back to the community by volunteering her time and skills.
