LORRIN FRENCH

AssISTANT URBAN DESIGNER

Lorrin brings a diverse skill set to M-Group with experience in economic development, architectural design, real estate development, and residential construction, as well as a background in fishing – he is a third-generation fisherman and spent eight years in the family business of commercial crabbing on the Central and Northern California Coast. He started his career at M-Group as an Urban Design intern and worked his way into a permanent position through his contributions to several Objective Design Standard projects.

As an Urban Designer, Lorrin’s interest in planning resides at the intersection of design, economic, and social considerations, recognizing that Urban Design, and by extension planning, is a multidisciplinary profession – it is a political and economic process as much as it is a design process. Lorrin brings critical thinking and creative problem-solving to this process. He is driven by a fascination with the built environment and a desire to understand the "how" and "why" of the way things are.

Lorrin followed up his Bachelor’s degree in Architecture from Portland State University with a Master’s in City and Regional Planning from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, where he graduated with academic distinction and was awarded the Outstanding Student Award for Urban Design. Lorrin loves a good pick-up game of basketball, catching a wave, and rooting on the San Francisco Giants!
